How are women's rights respected during war and reconstruction?

The head of the NGO "Association of Democratic Development" Anna Nikolenko-Bayeva and her deputy Iryna Kulyk took part in the Forum "Implementation of women's rights during martial law and post-war recovery", held in Kyiv.

During the event, the results of monitoring of ensuring women's rights in 2022–2025, conducted by women's public organizations and members of the National Network "Women's Consortium of Ukraine", were presented. Its subject was a comparative analysis of ensuring women's rights in 2022-2025 in accordance with the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and the Concluding Observations to the Ninth Periodic Report of Ukraine to the UN Committee.

Forum participants discussed a wide range of issues related to women's political participation, education, health care, economic security, and gender-based violence. All these topics have in common: women's rights cannot be postponed "after the war". They are currently determining what Ukraine will be like in the future.

Анна Ніколенко-Баєва Anna Nikolenko-Baieva together with her colleagues, she participated in the discussion of how the war changed women's rights in political and social life, focusing on the participation of women and women's NGOs in humanitarian response. The participants also discussed whether the war affected women's participation in decision-making and what is the role of women's leadership in times of crisis.

Ірина Кулик Iryna Kulyk took part in the discussion on ensuring women's rights in the socio-economic sphere and employment. In particular, it was about the issue of full involvement of women's potential in the economy, support of women's economic capacity, combination of care work and retraining or employment, countering the "feminization of poverty".

Based on the results of the forum, recommendations and strategic perspectives will be developed to strengthen the policy of ensuring women's rights during the war and during the post-war recovery of Ukraine.

The monitoring and analytical report are based on the experience and expertise of almost 70 specialists in the field of public and political activity, education, health care, socio-economic sphere, employment and the fight against human trafficking and gender-based violence. Its implementation was made possible thanks to the program of flexible grants from Oxfam.
