How to conduct a security audit in the community? Why is it needed and what allows you to change?

How to conduct a security audit in the community? Why is it needed and what allows you to change? The answers to these important questions were learned this week by the participants of the training on the methodology of conducting an audit of the security of the territory in the Kulikiv settlement territorial community.

The training was attended by members of a multidisciplinary working group, which will actually conduct a security audit,— representatives of local authorities and the public, the police, and the State Emergency Service. This event is organized within the framework of the project "Detection, prevention and response to security challenges in territorial communities of Chernihiv region", which is implemented by the NGO "Association of Democratic Development" and which is a component of the "Impulse" project, implemented by the International Renaissance Foundation and the IBO "Eastern Europe Foundation".

The two-day training combined the theory of security audit with the development and development of specific routes. Particular attention was paid to the audit of shelters in the Kulikiv community, because several of them are located on the central street, the audit of which is planned to be carried out in the community.

Teams of participants of the training visited and assessed safety in the kindergarten and premises of the village council. They analyzed security challenges in anti-radiation and conventional shelters.

Working out potential security audit routes, the participants of the training analyzed both the public space in the settlement as a whole and individual details that significantly affect security.

Primarily:

  • approaches to shelters;
  • lighting,
  • navigation,
  • availability and risks for women, children, older persons, persons with disabilities at different times of the day.

Based on the results of practical work, the teams presented the results of a conditional audit of the territory, and also formed a list of priority decisions.

In addition, the training discussed decision-making algorithms, mechanisms for transferring results to authorities, involving the public in conducting security audits, and monitoring the implementation of recommendations.

Thanks to the training, the working group in the Kulikiv community has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills and is fully prepared for conducting a security audit.

The material was prepared within the framework of the project "Empowerment of civil society for the stability and restoration of Ukraine ("Impulse")", implemented by the International Renaissance Foundation" International Renaissance Foundation" together with the IBO "Eastern Europe Foundation" Eastern Europe Foundation funded by Norway (Norad) and Sweden (Sida).
