A coordination meeting on combating conflict-related sexual violence (SNPC) was held in Chernihiv. It was joined by Kateryna Levchenko, Government Commissioner for Gender Policy, representatives of international organizations, authorities and public organizations. The head of the secretariat took part in the discussion Coalition "Chernihivshchyna 1325" , head of the "Association of Democratic Development" Anna Nikolenko-Bayeva. "It is very important that at the area level there is an understanding of the significance of this work. Such coordination meetings provide an opportunity to strengthen communication, outline problematic issues and note achievements in the field of countering the SNPC", Kateryna Levchenko noted.

During the meeting, attention was focused on the mechanisms of response to the SNPC, strengthening cooperation, and the situation in the region to date was analyzed.

Currently, 8 cases of sexual violence related to the war have been recorded in the Chernihiv region. Two of the victims are minors. And these are only those cases that are known to law enforcement agencies.

Ukraine became the first country in the world to take care of assistance to victims of the SNPC even during active hostilities. Today, countering the SNPC and supporting the victims is an important component of the regional action plan for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 "Women. Peace. Security." The Chernihiv Oblast 1325 Coalition is also involved in responding to these issues.

And that is why it is urgent to strengthen the response system: from identifying cases and interdepartmental interaction to providing victims with access to timely, confidential and comprehensive assistance.

Today, the region has 55 specialized support services for victims – crisis rooms, day centers for social and psychological assistance, primary counseling services and mobile teams. More than a thousand people used their services in 2026 alone.

War-related sexual violence is a war crime and has no statute of limitations. Those responsible must be brought to justice and those affected must receive the assistance they need!
