Residents of Chernihiv Oblast and Sumy Oblast receive financial assistance after shelling

NGO "Association of Democratic Development" in partnership with BF "Right to Protection" (R2P) Право на захист тand with the support of the Government of the United States of America, they are actively implementing a project of emergency support for the civilian population. As part of this initiative, residents of Chernihiv region and Shostky district of Sumy region receive a one-time cash payment in the amount of 12,300 hryvnias.

Financial assistance is designed to improve living conditions, preserve dignity and support people who find themselves in difficulty due to hostilities. The payments are for families who have been forced to evacuate due to constant danger, as well as for persons whose property, homes or health have been affected by missile strikes, drone attacks and other enemy shelling.

One of those for whom this support has become vital is Mrs. Lidia (name changed for security) from Novgorod-Siversky district, Chernihiv region. In late summer, a woman was directly hit by an enemy drone during her work shift at a gas station and was severely injured. The received 12,300 hryvnias helped the family close huge expenses for medicines and long-term treatment.

"I am incredibly grateful to the Association for Democratic Development for such financial assistance! If it weren't for that money, my husband and I just wouldn't know what to do. We critically needed these funds, and we spent absolutely everything down to a penny on my treatment and medicine. Therefore, this help has become a real lifeline for us", the woman shares with gratitude.

After what she experienced, Ms. Lydia is still recovering from the shock. She recalls that danger crept in instantly, leaving no chance to escape the explosion. Due to severe back injuries, the woman had to spend more than two weeks in a hospital bed, and now — still have long months to recover at home.

"It all happened at the end of the summer. I was working at a gas station, it was just my change when this drone arrived. I heard his hum at the last moment, too late... I realized that I did not have time to run back to a safe distance, and then an explosion rang out. Back injuries turned out to be very serious. Now I am already at home, in my village here, in Novgorod-Sivershchyna, but recovery is difficult, treatment continues. We live together with my husband, there is no one to help us, so once again thank you very much for not leaving us in trouble", adds Ms. Lidia.

Financial assistance is provided as part of the implementation of the project "Comprehensive services for the protection of civilians affected by hostilities and improvement of the resilience skills of employees who come to the rescue first".

The project is implemented thanks to the generous support of the Government of the United States of America. The NGO Association for Democratic Development is responsible for the content, and it does not necessarily reflect the views of the Government of the United States of America.
