The results of a survey of residents of Ivanivska, Kyivska and Kiptivska communities regarding the design of memorial objects became known. They will be installed to commemorate the events of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine and Chernihiv Oblast.

"The results of the survey turned out to be a clear manifestation of civic activity and the importance of choosing memorial objects for their common space", said Maria Menyok, head of the NGO "Women for Development".

We will remind that it was possible to take part in the survey from February 9 to 29, 2024. Residents completed both online and paper questionnaires.

     Kiptiv community

In the Kiptiv community, 142 people took part in the survey, of which 33 used electronic questionnaires, and 109 filled out paper questionnaires.

According to the voting results, the vast majority (111 votes) cast their votes for installing the book on a stand as a memorial object. The board on the stand also had some support (29 votes), while the board on the building received only 2 votes.

"Even in peacetime, various projects caused a polar reaction. Some considered it an extremely important matter, some ‒ did not see the point in it. During a full-scale invasion, it is even more difficult, but everyone is united by one victory. Women actively participated in the voting and supported the idea of an open book on a stand (about 60%)" ‒ explained Iryna Dubyk, a member of the NGO "Kiptivska Women's Union".

      Kyiv community

147 people voted in the Kyiv community. This is the largest number of participants among all communities. 124 questionnaires were electronic, 23 were paper.

According to the voting results, 92 votes were cast for the book on the stand, 39 for the board on the stand and 16 for the board on the building.

      Ivanivka community

In the Ivanovo community, 160 people took part in the selection of the memorial object. 31 people used electronic questionnaires, and 129 – were paper.

An overwhelming majority of votes (146) were cast for the book's installation on a stand, another 11 for a board on the stand and 3 for a board on the building.

"The results of the survey reflect a wide range of opinions and wishes of citizens regarding commemoration and creation of memorial objects. It is also worth noting their activity in the voting process, which indicates a high level of participation and interest in the formation of a common memory space", added Olga Vovchenko, head of the NGO "Yustyna".

"Maple alleys have already been planted in our communities, on which memorial objects will later be installed, for which people voted. It is important that the maples ‒ are a memory of those who survived the events of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine and will rebuild the country. It will be a space that will not only honor the memory, but also testify to the victory of life, indomitability and thirst for freedom", ‒ commented on the results of the survey Lidia Hartovych, head of the NGO "Dobro Time".

This survey was conducted by the team of the NGO "Association for Democratic Development", together with the NGO "Women for Development", the NGO "Kiptivska Women's Union", the NGO "Yustyna" and the NGO "Dobro Time".

The project "Collective memory of the war in Chernihiv Oblast" is/is implemented with the support of the "Partnership for the Sustainability of Ukraine" Foundation, which is financed by the governments of Great Britain, Canada, the Netherlands, the United States of America, Finland, Switzerland and Sweden.
