Inclusivity and accessibility are important principles followed by teams of children's spaces working within the PROMESSA project: "Pearl" — in Novovodolazka, "Wings" — in Zlatopilska, "Source" — in Tomakivska communities.

Recently, the spaces "Pearl" and "Wings" received special lifts, thanks to which children and their parents (guardians) who use wheelchairs can comfortably attend classes in the spaces. Children's spaces created within the PROMESSA project are already visited by children with disabilities of various nosologies. And now we have provided more comfortable accessibility for boys and girls who use wheelchairs. For us, inclusiveness is about equal opportunities and the absence of restrictions in receiving psychosocial support, as well as the social activity of children", said Iryna Kulyk, head of the PROMESSA project Iryna Kulyk.

Visiting children's spaces is important for children with disabilities, because:

  • every child can receive psychosocial support, which will help reduce feelings of anxiety, overcome fears and other emotional consequences of war;
  • socialization takes place, children learn to interact with peers, develop communication and leadership skills;
  • stereotypes are destroyed and isolation, a feeling of detachment from society, decreases;
  • the feeling of safety increases, because the child feels accepted and valuable.

The project "PROMESSA: Protection of children, response to emergency situations and health care for the most vulnerable families affected by the conflict in the Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions" is implemented by the NGO "Association of Democratic Development" in partnership with the branch of the "Ter des Om Italy ETS" foundation in Ukraine (TDH Italy) Terre des Hommes Italia. The project is financed by Italian Cooperation. And it is implemented with the aim of strengthening mental health and improving the social adaptation of children and their families who suffered from the war in the Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
