Safe communication in the conditions of daily challenges of Chernihiv Oblast.

The team of the Public Organization "Association of Democratic Development" underwent an important training for working with the population affected by the consequences of the war - "Key aspects of communication with affected communities".

Chernihiv Oblast regularly suffers from enemy shelling, destruction and daily security challenges. Representatives of the public sector working in this area constantly interact with people who have experienced severe injuries, loss of homes or are in a state of chronic stress. In such realities, proper communication — is not just a professional skill, but a psychological first aid tool.

Therefore, for the team of the NGO "Association of Democratic Development", which actively works in the Chernihiv region, the topic of the training was especially important and necessary for work.

Olga Soboleva, a practicing psychologist with extensive work experience, crisis psychologist, trainer-supervisor of the WHO MR+, conducted the training.

During intensive training, the training participants, together with the psychologist, not only gained theoretical knowledge, but were also able to improve the acquired skills in practice and work in pairs. The focus was on four key blocks that help build trust bridges even in the most difficult circumstances:

Communication challenges at work: we analyzed the specifics of work in wartime conditions, when emotional tension is over the top, and the need for information and help is critical.

The first touch of a potential project participant: the moment of the first contact with the person who asked for help was analyzed in detail, because the level of further trust and a sense of security depends on this stage.

Effective communication: defined basic standards for building a dialogue, where the focus is on respect, honesty and the principle of "do no harm".

Skills of effective communication: in practice, techniques of active listening, ecological response to stress and management of one's own emotional state have been practiced.

According to the training participants themselves, the acquired knowledge will help the team to act even more professionally, providing residents of Chernihiv Oblast with reliable support, understanding and a safe space for recovery.

The training took place within the framework of the implementation of the project "Supporting the vulnerable population living in the border settlements of the Chernihiv region", which is implemented by the NGO "Association for Democratic Development" with the financial support of Norway.
