When conducting a community security audit, it is important to take a comprehensive approach, as it covers all interrelated risks — physical, social, technical and infrastructural.
Working groups in the Kulikiv and Minsk communities, which are participants in the project "Detection, prevention and response to security challenges in territorial communities of the Chernihiv region", focus on this approach. This project is implemented by the NGO "Association of Democratic Development", and it is a component of the "Impulse" project, which is implemented by the International Renaissance Foundation and the IBO "Eastern Europe Foundation".
A comprehensive approach allows simultaneous assessment of the state of lighting, shelters, reliability of surveillance systems, inclusiveness of the environment and behavioral factors, guaranteeing effective protection for all population groups.
After all, a safe environment today – is not a privilege, but a tool for survival. It is a response to the challenges faced daily by women and men, girls and boys, persons with disabilities, older persons, internally displaced persons.
Why a comprehensive approach is needed —
- Full risk picture: Detects hidden and obvious threats that individual spot checks may miss.
- Taking into account the interests of all groups: Explores accessibility and comfort for women, children, the elderly and persons with disabilities.
- Saving resources: Allows you to determine priorities in advance and direct funds to the most important protection measures.
- Combining physical and digital security: Using technological security systems to monitor public spaces and strengthen security.
- Community involvement: Unites the efforts of the authorities, the police, the State Emergency Service, public organizations and residents to jointly solve problems.
