Where the elements of accessibility are lacking, what is the quality of pedestrian areas, are shelters available to all in the community? The working group on security audits in the Minsk community, which includes representatives of local authorities, the police, the State Emergency Service and activists, held another meeting and analyzed the collected data after conducting an audit of the security of the territory.
The Minsk community is a participant in the project "Detection, prevention and response to security challenges in territorial communities of Chernihiv region", which is implemented by the NGO "Association of Democratic Development", and it is a component of the "Impulse" project, which is implemented by the International Renaissance Foundation and the IBO "Eastern Europe Foundation".
The participants in the working group investigated the route in the city of Mena chosen to carry out the security audit. In particular, representatives of the working group went from school to hospital through the central part of the city. First of all, they drew attention to the fact that the sidewalks have an unsatisfactory surface, and pedestrian crossings do not have regulatory elements, especially near the school, even the markings require updating. There are no lowering elements, which makes it difficult for people on wheelchairs and parents with children in wheelchairs. But the main problem regarding the state of the highway through Maine is that it does not belong to the sphere of powers of local self-government bodies, but is under regional control. Because of this, the local council does not have the opportunity to improve the condition of the road.
Near the hospital, the working group turned its attention to the bushes. Local residents also mentioned them in interviews conducted within the framework of the project. An unlighted area near the bushes causes fears among local women to walk near this area in the evening. As for access to shelters, they are located mainly in the city center, and residents of the surrounding area have difficult access primarily because of the distance.
The participants of the working group analyzed the focus of group studies conducted with different categories of community residents, individual interviews and available security documents. Based on these materials, a report of the conducted security audit will now be prepared.
