What should be the organization so that every person feels subject, heard, protected in it and can influence decisions? The team of the NGO "Association for Democratic Development" worked on this issue during the strategic session on the development of public organization policies.

Policies for GO – are a set of rules and principles that determine how an organization should work in different situations. They help to understand how to act and what to expect from others. Policies deal with various aspects of work: from how an organization manages finances to how it treats staff or partners.

 – policy is not just a document. This is an agreement on how the team wants to act in the organization.

The formation of the organization's policies is based on the practice of its activities and values. Since the leading activity of the "Association for Democratic Development" is the protection of women's rights and interests, it has a feminist approach to values. Among the values of the organization are dignity, equality, women's leadership, security, cohesion, development.

Creating a shared image of a feminist-sensitive organization means:

  • not only the topic of the organization's work, women or gender equality;
  • and it also puts at the center the issues of power, inequality, access to resources, voice and the ability to influence decisions;
  • the way internal work is organized: how decisions are made, how resources and responsibilities are distributed, who has a voice, how the organization reacts to discrimination, conflicts and violations,
  • how safe the environment is and whether team welfare is taken into account.

Feminist values become organizational practice when they are enshrined in rules, procedures, responsibility sharing, and daily management decisions.

Based on the results of the facilitated events, the team identified problematic issues and developed policy projects.

  •  A policy to prevent and respond to discrimination will create conditions in which discrimination can be prevented, recognized, safely reported and properly responded to.
  •  The policy of prevention of occupational burnout in everyday activities means that caring for people is not the personal responsibility of the employee, but an organizational practice.

 This event was made possible thanks to the support of the Government of Norway within the framework of the project "Building a gender-inclusive recovery together with the women's movement of Ukraine" (GEN-Recovery), implemented by the Ukrainian Women's Fund Український Жіночий Фонд / Ukrainian Women's Fund.
